How to Hang Shelves in Your Steel Building
VersaTube buildings are made from USA steel. Why? Because it’s some of the toughest building material available. If you’re wondering, the answer is yes, you can hang shelves in your steel building. You’ll want to enlist an assistant to help you guide the pilot holes and support boards, and you’ll need a few materials:
Materials Needed
· Drill
· Screws
· Washers
· Shelf brackets and wooden boards
· Shelves
· Tape measure
· Silicone caulk
· Level
· Saw (optional)
Getting Started
First, decide how high you want your shelves to be. Place a board vertically on the interior wall so that it extends 6 inches above where you plan the top shelf to be and 6 inches below the bottom one. Then, place a washer on each screw and put a drop or two of caulk on the inside of the washer to prevent any leakage.
From the outside of the building, drill the screw through the wall and the board. Repeat every 6 inches along the support board. Next, do the same for the second board. Now, you should have two vertical support boards on the interior of your building where you can hang brackets.
Placing Brackets and Shelves
Using your level, screw the shelf brackets into the support boards according to the desired height of each shelf. You want to make sure that the weight distribution is evenly spaced across each shelf. Lastly, screw your shelving into the brackets. You can use a variety of shelving types, from solid wood to metal rack shelving. That is how you install shelving in your steel building. Fairly simple, right?
