Common Mistakes When Building a Steel Building

by Stacy Fender on August 10, 2018

As the old saying goes, hindsight is 20/20. And when you make any big decisions or start any big projects, there are almost always things at then end that you would have done differently, if you’d only known.

It applies to buying a steel building, too. While pre-engineered steel building kits from VersaTube are incredibly easy to work with, there are some things you need to keep in mind:

Don’t pour the foundation too soon.

When you decide you want a steel building, you probably think you know exactly the size you want, too. You might even be so anxious that you decide to go ahead and pour your concrete foundation - possibly even before you’ve purchased your kit or have your plans in hand.

This is a mistake. Your building will be designed with the wind and snow loads of your area taken into consideration, and this can affect the foundation needs. Wait to pour your pad until you have consulted with VersaTube and have your plans. It will help you avoid a potentially costly mistake.

Don’t order your kit until you have your permits.

Go ahead and start shopping on our site. Look at the options, and begin to figure out exactly what you want and need. But don’t purchase your kit until you’ve checked with your local building and zoning office. They’ll be able to tell you what permits you’ll need to complete your project, and perhaps most importantly if your project is allowed in the area where you want to complete it.

Don’t by from a company without an in-house engineering department.

You can probably find less expensive steel buildings. But they aren’t going to be engineered for the snow and wind loads in your area, won’t have a 20-year frame warranty, and you won’t have a professional to talk to when you have questions or concerns.

Working with a company like VersaTube means you get the best possible product and the best customer service, hands-down. So take a little friendly advice, and avoid these potential pitfalls before you buy your steel building. If you need any help contact us or give us a call 888-889-9611
