Protect Your Home on the Road: Design Your Own RV Cover

Protect Your Home on the Road: Design Your Own RV Cover

by Abby Mwesigwa on November 26, 2018

Your RV is a long-term investment you’re planning to use for many years, so leaving it parked uncovered for months at a time isn’t the best idea. From sunlight beating on your paint to the weight of ice and snow on your roof, the elements are definitely against your plan to keep your RV in pristine condition. Instead of leaving your vehicle completely out in the cold, protect it year-round with a Versatube Steel RV Cover! We have 12 standard models to choose from, plus a Design Your Own feature that lets you completely customize the cover to your specifications. Not sure how to pick your perfect model? We have a few tips to help you get just the shelter your RV needs!

Nail down the size

Our standard RV Covers range from 27’ to 40’ long, and with the Design Your Own feature, you can custom order an RV shelter with any dimensions you want. Want to park your RV and boat under the same shelter? No problem! With VersaTube, you can create the exact cover you need.

Pick your location

Before you finalize which RV cover you want, make sure it’s compatible with your chosen location. You probably have a good idea where you’ll assemble your shelter and park your RV, but it’s a good idea to stake out your location before you set the site in stone. When you see the size marked out, you’ll be able to verify you really have the room to place it there, plus it’ll help you notice any pitfalls with your location. When it’s all marked out, it’s easier to tell if the ground might require some leveling. (Keep in mind that when stationary for a long period of time, it’s important to have your RV parked generally level. If it’s at an angle for a long while, it can cause problems with your axles and even for your refrigerator.) Click here for a tutorial on staking.

Planning the budget is probably the least fun part of the process, but you can’t overlook this step. While a steel cover will protect your RV much better than a cloth cover and save you a lot of money in the long run, it is more of an investment.

Besides choosing the size RV cover you need and deciding whether a standard or custom design works for you, there are a couple of other things to consider. What kind of flooring do you want? While gravel or even dirt is fine as a flooring for your RV Cover, you may prefer to park on concrete, which will be an added expense. Additionally, if your location needs leveling, you’ll need to factor in that. If you prefer not to assemble your RV shelter yourself, there’s also the contractor to include in the budget.

Choose your design

If you’ve finalized the size you want for your cover, the location, and the budget, you’re ready to pick your design! If you choose one of our standard models you can choose a frame only, a roof-only style cover, or a 3-sided RV Cover. There’s a variety of sizes to pick from and eight color choices. Or, choose our Design Your Own feature for a completely custom design.

We’re so glad you’ve chosen a VersaTube cover for your RV shelter! With a shelter that’s completely American-made from high-quality steel, you can rest easy knowing you’re providing the best protection for your home on the road. Need any help with your design?
