Wisdom Wednesday: Safety tips when you build your VersaTube shed
You carefully selected your VersaTube shed online, or maybe you even designed your own. You selected the size and the style, the colors and other options. Now it’s arrived and you are Ready. To. Start.
You’ve read all about our Slip-Fit technology (I mean, k'nex for grown-ups? Come on!), and you can’t wait to get started.
But hold your horses. For this project to go smoothly, we need to have a little talk about safety.
After all, getting injured while you’re assembling your VersaTube project certainly won’t help you get your project done any faster. Plus, well, injuries hurt. So let’s just do everything we can to avoid them OK?
Protect Yourself
Whether you’re building a small shed or a large barn, it’s important to wear the right protective gear. Safety glasses can be a good idea, especially when you’re anchoring your building. You’ll also want work gloves to protect your hands from sharp edges, protective clothing, and a hard hat. Having a first aid kit nearby is always useful as well.
Work Smarter
You’ll want to make sure you and anyone helping you isn’t just using the proper gear, but also working the proper way. The gloves will help keep your hand from getting cut on any sharp edges. The protective clothing will do the same. The hard hat will protect your head just in case something slips when you’re working up high or carrying supplies. Another tip: lift with your knees, not your back, and make sure you ask for help when you need it.
Clear the Work Zone
Be sure to remove anything from the work zone that isn’t necessary to your job. Keep the supplies you do need well organized, so they’re not a tripping hazard. (This will also make it easier to find what you need, so you can work more efficiently.)
Tools? Be Cautious
Tools are helpful, but can also be dangerous. If you need to use them, be sure to follow all the directions and standard safety precautions to avoid injuries.
