3 Ways to Connect with a Teenage Son
As your kids grow it becomes harder to connect with them. They spend their time doing things that you just can’t get interested in. How can you spend time with your son if he’s buried in a video game when you can’t get through the first level? Or what if he wants to listen to music that grinds on your nerves so badly it makes your teeth hurt? It is important to find some common ground so that you can impart some knowledge into his life and he can grow skills that will help him in the future.
Build Something
Teaching your son how to work with his hands will teach him a lot. He’ll learn to use tools, have patience, and take pride in completing a project and having something to show for his effort. If you have mechanical skills then teach him how to rebuild a small engine or make a hot rod from scratch together. If woodworking is more your style then build a box car or a birdhouse together. Even going to the store and buying a model car to assemble or a rocket that you can launch when its built will be a lot of fun.
Grow Something
Some people have a green thumb. Planting a garden with your son is another way to teach him to have patience. It will also give him an appreciation for the environment and the way nature works. If your garden is planted with vegetables he’ll have the satisfaction of knowing that something he cultivated from a seed is helping to bring food to your family’s table. And if you’re growing flowers, he’ll love to see the beauty that his hard work brings and the smiles that he gets from friends and families when they see it as well.
Get In Shape
If your son is into sports you can help train him to get better. Putting in a gym at your home will give you a great way to spend time with him. You can lift weights together and coach each other on the treadmill. He’ll appreciate the work that you put in to help him improve his strength and speed. And he’ll be proud of himself when he looks in the mirror and sees the results that he’s getting. Oh...and you might lose a few pounds as well.
VersaTube has products that can meet all of these needs. Whether you want a building to store gardening supplies or a large garage to make a full gym, we have it. And the best part is that when you order one of our kits that ships in a few days, you’ll be able to assemble the building together. These are “construction kits for adults”, so you and your son will be able to build your space from the ground up.
Our “Design You Own” feature will take that a step further. You can get your son to help you design a building that meets your exact needs and then let us build your kit to those specifications. If you’d like to see some of the buildings that we’ve provided to our clients then check out our Facebook page.
Kids grow fast. Before you know it your son will be heading off to college. Let us help you create an area where you can really get to know him while he’s young!
