Customer Testimonial - Building Survived a Fire

by VersaTube Marketing on October 09, 2019

When VersaTube customer, Richard decided to go with a VersaTube structure for his welding shop, he had no idea that his building would end up surviving a gas explosion and a fire that raged for 35 minutes, and that it would be instrumental in stopping the spread of fire and saving lives.

Here’s an excerpt from his testimonial:

My VersaTube building that I built, I used 24 gauge PBR siding. Even with the intense heat as it burned for approximately 35 minutes, the metal only buckled on the roof. I purchased heavy-duty fasteners to hold the metal to the frame. I bolted the building down on to 10-inch channel steel 1/4 inch thick, I used the channel steel around the entire perimeter around the shop and welded the corners together. The roof panels buckled so badly it pulled the screws out of the tubing but the Versatube frame did not buckle or warp and seems to actually have kept its structural integrity. I have had Winnipeg MANITOBA Fire Captains come out to see how the building didn't collapse from the "inferno" was their words, and they said that they wish building codes would make it mandatory to use a structure like mine as it would be so much safer from stopping the fire from spreading to other buildings and homes as if it was wood it would have taken at least 4 homes down because the wood buildings would have just have been ashes by the time the Fire Department would have arrived.

No one can plan for the unthinkable, but what a relief to know that if you’re a victim of a disaster, you’ve already taken major preparation steps by choosing a VersaTube steel structure for your building!

So, just how does it happen? What makes a VersaTube so strong that it’s fire-resistant?

It’s all in the steel construction. We use 2” x 3” heavy-duty galvanized American steel tubing. That beats the non-galvanized imported steel, hands down. Our sheet panels are 29-gauge American steel with a standard 5-rib profile and 36” width. Not only do we use American-steel, but we make our DIY kits in the USA, too (Tennessee and Arizona). Because we use such high-quality materials, we can offer our VersaTube Product Pledge which includes a 20-year frame warranty!

If you choose VersaTube for your building, not only will it be fire-resistant, but you can expect it to weather all types of extreme conditions. Extreme hot or cold won’t cause warping. Water won’t damage your structure, and termites will be completely uninterested. VersaTube buildings have even been known to withstand hurricanes!

Instead of a timber structure that’s more susceptible to all those things, why not make your new garage, shed, or shop an incredibly strong VersaTube building?
