The Dock Builder
Unlike so many things, it didn’t start with a passion. Or even as a skill handed down through the ages, father to son, father to son. It’s just something you learned how to do one summer on the lake. A seasonal job. A few bucks to spend on pretty girls and nights out, and a few more to save until the evenings turned cooler, the air crisp, and it was time for classes to begin.
Those were the days. Carefree. Sure, it was work. Hard work. But you were on the water, and you never really wanted to be anywhere else. Hot sun. Cold drinks. Suntans (and some sunburns.) No one really worried about that back then.
You learned a lot, too. Dock building was a lot different back then. Wooden docks. Some of them were beautiful. None of them are still around. The waves, the weather - it was just too much.
You finished school but never could shake the memories of that summer, and that love of the water. It got into your bones. Deep. So a few years down the road, you went back. Bought that business, and made it your own. Bigger. Better.
The lake may be the same, but the boats aren’t - so the docks you build aren’t either. They’re bigger, stronger. Designed to stand the test of time, waves and weather. Steel. Concrete. They house expensive boats that are like second homes, and their owners don’t just want those boats tied to a dock - they want them under cover.
