How Do I Anchor My Building?

by VersaTube Marketing on June 18, 2019

You’ve found the perfect building, gone through the permit process with your local municipality, and cleared and leveled your land for your solid foundation. We know you are eager to get the job started. You are even more excited to get your structure completed and in use. Anchoring your building correctly during construction will ensure that your incredible steel-frame building stands the test of time.

VersaTube structures are designed to anchor into prepared ground, gravel, asphalt, or concrete. Whichever foundation you choose, anchoring can be achieved with relative ease.

There are two standard anchoring types. VersaTube typically provides 1/2" x 7" expansion bolts with a flat washer and a hex nut or 30" ground anchors depending on the foundation type for your structure. However, a wide variety of anchor options are on the market today.

Ground anchoring requires VersaTube 1/2” x 30’ rebar ground anchors when a structure is mounted directly to a grass/dirt, gravel or asphalt surface. For solid securement into prepared ground, it is recommended that concrete piers be poured around each rebar anchor that has been centered in a post hole. Center these at each pre-drilled anchor hole location in the base rails. Before the concrete sets, re-check all your dimensions to make sure the frame is square, has the proper width and matches the anchor holes in the base railing. Let the concrete cure overnight before installing roof or wall assemblies.

If your structure will be mounted to a concrete pad, footing or stem wall, traditional concrete wedge expansion bolts are used. Additional anchoring configurations may also be necessary to achieve increased wind load requirements for some areas (i.e., FL, TX, CA, and other coastal regions). Special tools will be helpful during anchor installation. If you do not own a heavy duty hammer drill for drilling holes for your concrete anchors, you can rent or borrow one for the day. You will also need the appropriate size masonry drill bit.
