How many doors and windows do I need in my workshop?

by VersaTube Marketing on October 28, 2019

If you are preparing to add a workshop to your property, you want it to be designed perfectly. Deciding how many doors and windows you need is an important part of the process. The design of your workshop depends a great deal on what you are going to be using it for.

Windows

The windows in workshops provide a wide variety of functions. From letting in natural light to allowing the space to be aired out, windows are a vital part of every structure.

In woodworking spaces, for example, windows should be arranged along the front of the building. This provides you with plenty of natural light but gives you wall space for storing tools. If you want multiple workstations you may want to include more windows throughout your building. If you are going to stain your creations, having a window to air out the fumes is a safety factor.

It’s also important to consider if the things you are storing can be exposed to direct sunlight. Wood, paintings, and other items may fade or degrade if they get too much sunlight. Designing your building to account for this is a very important aspect of the process.

Doors

How do you choose between garage doors or single doors or double doors? Every workshop is different and has its own needs based on how you are going to use it. If you want to work on vehicles and other large projects a garage-style door is a must for your workshop. These doors will allow you to drive into the workshop and unload heavy supplies. The size of the door also makes it easier to work on large vehicles and projects.

If you plan on using your workshop more for storage and smaller projects, single or double doors might be a better choice. These doors are big enough for you to move through but don’t take up as much wall-space as garage-style doors.

When it comes time to design your workshop, the key thing to know is what you want to use it for. The purpose of your workshop is going to dictate how it should be outfitted.
