How to Insulate Your VersaTube Garage
We love to see how our customers are finishing the interior of their VersaTube buildings! While we don’t make insulation and it isn’t included with our buildings, we do know it’s common for our customers to insulate their garages. After all, if you plan to spend much time in the space come winter or summer, insulation is going to make working in extreme temps more comfortable. You can insulate your VersaTube Garage in any method you choose, but here are some ideas and tips to get you started.
When to Apply Insulation
You’ve got two options when it comes to applying the insulation. You can apply an insulating barrier wrap or insulation rolls before the sheet metal is attached. Or, you can use insulation rolls or spray-foam insulation after the structure is built.
If you’re planning to insulate before the sheet metal is attached, we always recommend you reach out to us and discuss your sheet metal options before you finalize your order.
What Type of Insulation to Apply
Really, how you finish the interior of your VersaTube is completely up to you, but these are the most common insulation choices:
• Fiberglass rolled insulation - check out this tutorial if you plan to install rolled insulation yourself.
• Spray foam insulation - spray foam insulation provides a good air barrier and is a great choice for insulating steel buildings.
• Batt and Blanket insulation - Batt insulation comes in a 4” to 8” length while Blanket insulation comes in a roll. This type is usually made of rock wool or processed fiberglass. It’s usually the most budget-friendly option but needs careful installation to be effective.
• Loose-fill insulation - comes in a variety of materials, but if you choose cellulose (which is made from recycled newspaper), it’s an eco-friendly choice.
• ¼” Radiant Barrier insulation - here at VersaTube, we have recently partnered with ESP, Inc, a third-party vendor who offers Low-E Reflective insulation products, an energy-efficient choice.
