Keeping Pests Out of Your VersaTube Outdoor Building
You’re probably considering a VersaTube Steel building because you’ve learned some of the ways that it is preferable to wood buildings. For instance, it’s stronger, more fire-resistant, able to withstand weather extremes, it’s easy to build...we could go on. Pests, on the other hand, are the opposite. There’s a lot they don’t prefer about a steel building. That’s why it’s easier to keep certain pests out of your VersaTube outdoor building than it would be with a timber building!
Birds & Squirrels
Have you ever entered a barn or another large outbuilding and heard birds chirping and flying overhead? That’s because birds, just like squirrels, like to nest in trusses in the rafters. Since a steel VersaTube frame is stronger than a wood one and requires fewer supports, there aren’t as many places for them to nest.
Wood-Boring Insects
Termites come to mind instantly, but there’s a whole host of insects that eat, burrow, or damage timber, including beetles, carpenter ants, carpenter bees, wood wasps, and moths. Build yourself a steel building and deny them anything to feast on!
Keep Out Other Pests
With a little foresight, you can keep out other pests that might try to make their home in your steel building.
-
Seal properly - Weather-proofing doesn’t just keep out the rain; it also keeps out insects.
-
Keep landscaping trimmed - Bugs and rodents love to shelter in many types of bushes and tall grass, so be sure to keep the hedges around your building neatly trimmed.
-
Keep it clean - Don’t attract pests by leaving trash around. Clean up any spider webs and remove bugs anytime you spot one.
-
Skip the Cardboard - All sorts of pests love cardboard and paper, especially if it becomes wet and moldy. Store your belongings in a plastic bin instead of a cardboard box. Not only will that help avoid insects, but it will also better protect your mementos from damage.
