Why Choose a Steel Barn over a Pole Barn
If you’re thinking about building a barn, you’re probably trying to decide between a steel barn and a pole barn. Both offer some advantages, but when you get right down to it, a steel barn is by far the better choice. We’ll tell you why.
First, the very way a pole barn is designed and constructed is a disadvantage. Think about it: Large poles are buried in the ground to serve as the support columns. These poles then move and decay over time, distorting and damaging your barn. Plus, these poles can sometimes be in the way. Unlike with steel, you simply can’t get the wide expanses of open space inside a pole barn.
Steel barns are durable. Anchored to their foundation and designed specifically to your area’s typical snow loads and common winds, they’re able to withstand common storms. And since they’re made from steel they aren’t susceptible to termites, mold, rot and other types of similar damage. In fact, they’re virtually maintenance free and typically cost much less to insure than a pole barn. So steel barns save you time AND money. There aren’t a whole lot of things in life you can say that about.
Finally, steel barns are simply safer for your livestock. A pole barn made of wood lined with tin isn’t safe for your valuable animals. The sturdier construction of a steel barn - especially if you choose to build on a concrete pad that’s easy to clean - gives your animals a warm, safe and dry environment that can stand up to the weather and will last for years.
