Tips to Store your Fishing Gear in a VersaTube Garage
Nothing beats an afternoon of just packing up your fishing gear and heading down to the lake or river for an impromptu fishing trip. Going deep sea or saltwater fishing can also be an exciting adventure and challenge.
However, a day of fishing can be ruined in an instant due to improperly stored or missing gear. Storing your fishing gear in a dry place protected from the elements, like a garage, will prevent them from rusting and degrading in other ways. Also, setting up a place to organize your gear will make packing your tackle box effortless. That way, you can focus more on easily getting your gear together and less on rushing around in frustration trying to find that reel or rod or lure, or heading off to the store at the last minute to replace damaged or missing equipment.
Here are some tips on how you can store your fishing gear in your VersaTube garage.
Storing fishing rods
It is important to clean and dry your fishing rod before you store it in your garage. Especially if you’ve gone saltwater fishing or got dirt on your rod. Wipe it down with a cloth soaked in lukewarm water and mild detergent and/or vinegar. If there is caked-on mud, use a soft bristle brush - or even a toothbrush - to gently scrub away the debris.
Store fishing rods either upright or horizontally in a well-ventilated, dry place. You can either add a pegboard or wall mount hooks to the walls or ceiling of your garage to properly store your fishing rod.
Storing fishing reels
Next, clean and lubricate fishing reels before storage. Wash reels in hot, soapy water and rinse and dry thoroughly. Remove any old or used line, especially if you’ve gone saltwater fishing. Then lubricate all of the moving parts of the reel using either a special lubricant that can be purchased at a sporting goods store or just normal everyday oil. You should also grease smaller moving parts of the reel with Vaseline.
Store lines and reels separately, preferably where you store all of your fishing tackle and accessories.
Storing fishing tackle and accessories
Make fishing tackle and other accessories easy to find and pack by organizing them neatly in tackle boxes and small storage bins with labels. You can add a shelving unit near your fishing rod hooks to keep your gear close together. Having a clear area to serve as a workstation - like a little table or the top shelf - will help with sorting and packing your tackle box. Either mount it to the wall or build it to a height where you can comfortably stand to gather your gear together. Add a small desk lamp or light installed above the workstation in order to see all of the smaller pieces more clearly.
Even though you may not mind storing worm bait in your fridge inside your house, you might also want to consider investing in a small refrigerator to place next to the shelving unit or workstation. Having the bait near your fishing gear will make it just a bit easier to pack up and go fishing.
Storing your fishing gear in your garage can make preparing for your next fishing trip effortless. You can even design your own VersaTube garage that best suit your needs - and have enough room to store your fishing boat as well. Contact us today with any questions.
