Tips to store your hunting gear in a VersaTube garage

by VersaTube Marketing on September 04, 2019

Hunting is a fun, exciting pastime that many of us enjoy. Plus, it’s a good way to stock up your freezer with some game meat to change up your everyday menu in unique ways.

After hunting season is over, though, it’s time to store your hunting gear away as you wait for the next season to arrive. Making sure your gear is well cared for before storage and that you have straightforward access to it will make it much easier to plan your next hunting trip. Storing your gear in your VersaTube garage will also keep it out of your way until you need it again.

Here are some tips on how you can store your hunting gear in your VersaTube garage.

Set up a Designated Area in your Garage for Hunting Gear

Install a sturdy metal shelving unit or clear a space on a shelving unit you already have in your VersaTube garage. This way, your gear will always be in the same place, so you’ll never have to worry about wondering where you put them.

It’s also a good idea to make sure your garage is well ventilated and insulated. Heat and moisture can damage hunting gear, so you will want to find a way to prevent mold and mildew from growing in your garage.

Hunting Clothes and Footwear

After the season is over, be sure to thoroughly wash and dry your hunting clothes before storing them. Organize them by season - are they warmer or colder weather clothing? - and fold and store them neatly in a bin. You may also want to consider vacuum seal bags to keep clothes fresh and prevent your clothes from developing an odor.

Clean and dry out boots, shoes, and any other kind of footwear before storing it in your garage. Cleaning the dirt off of them will prevent damage to your footwear if left unattended, and drying them will prevent mold from growing on them when you store them in storage bins. Storing them in bins will also keep mice from trying to make a home in your boots.

Weapons

Depending on what kind of weapon you prefer to hunt with, there are a variety of ways to store them.

If you have hunting firearms, the best place to store them is in a gun safe inside your house. There are several reasons for this - ultimately, it’s always best to have safe, reliable access to your gun safe from within your house. One reason, however, is due to the fact that, if placed in an unheated garage, moisture can build up inside your safe and cause guns to rust.

If you have limited space inside your house and were looking for a way to keep your gun safe in the garage, here are a few suggestions: invest in a dehumidifier to put inside the safe to prevent rust; find ways to disguise the safe, and keep all prying tools away from the safe.

For hunting bows, it is best to store them in a cool, dry, and dark place - kind of like a garage. Before storing your bow, make sure all screws and strings are tight, and also remember to apply wax to the strings to stop them from drying out and fraying. Keep it in a quality hard-sided case with locks, and be sure to check on it and stretch the strings once in a while, since storing a hunting bow for long periods of time without use can damage it as well.

Accessories and Tools

Hunting comes with a variety of accessories - game cameras, optics, calls, plus firearm and archery accessories, to name a few. Some of these small items can be the easiest to lose, so it’s a good idea to have them carefully organized as soon as the hunting season is over. Storing them in smaller, separate bins that are labeled will help keep things in order. Before storing electronic accessories, be sure to remove any batteries.
