Metal Garages
Wisdom Wednesday - How to be a space-saving ninja
If you’re like most people, your garage isn’t just a place to park your vehicles. It’s a playroom, a storage facility, a workshop, and maybe even a back-up pantry. In other words, your garage works hard. But with all that stuff packed inside, it can be hard to keep it all organized - which makes finding what you’re looking for … challenging. To say the least.
However, there are some tried-and-true tricks you can follow to stay on top of the clutter.
1. Use the walls. Look around. Chances are, the walls in your garage are pretty much a blank canvas. They’re also excellent unused storage space. Don’t just mount brackets on the studs - that’s still wasting space. Instead, mount ¾” plywood over the sheetrock or bare studs - whatever you have. That gives you a continuous mounting surface so you can efficiently use the space.
2. Use the ceiling. Now, look up. Betcha there isn’t much on the ceiling of your garage, either. You don’t want to place items you use frequently up there, but the ceiling is a great place to store items you don’t need frequently, like once-a-year holiday decorations. Look at various ceiling storage systems to find one that fits your needs.
3. Fold-away workbench. A workbench is incredibly useful - but it can also take up almost as much space as a small car. And, when you aren’t using it, it can become a magnet for piles of “stuff.” A fold-away workbench is the perfect solution - it’s there when you need it, but tucks out of the way when you don’t.
4. Hang your wheelbarrow. Yes, this one is very specific. But for goodness sake, when you don’t have a shed a wheelbarrow takes up tons of valuable floor space. Hang it on the wall instead.
5. Store your ladders on the ceiling or wall. Ladders are another space-eater. Hand them on the wall, or flush with the ceiling of your garage to save floor space, and save yourself from tripping over them all the time.
Other great garage space savers: cabinets (of course), a rolling workbench (if you have the room for one), and high shelving. All of these ideas work great in any VersaTube garage!
