How to Design Your Own VersaTube Garage

by Abby Mwesigwa on November 08, 2018

Congratulations! You’ve decided to go with a VersaTube steel garage. But now if you’re wondering about the next step, we have a few suggestions to help you pick or design your new  VersaTube garage.

What size is right for you?

Before you pick the size you need, have you considered every use you might need your garage to provide? Are you parking just one vehicle there? Two? Do you need to store bikes and sports equipment, or is it more like jet skis, a boat, or an RV? Do you need parking space plus a workshop? Besides what you need at this moment, think about whether your needs might be different in a few years.

When it comes to garages, we have 45 standard models, plus the ability to customize your own design, giving you literally thousands of options. Plus, we make it easy to see if everything you need to fit in your garage will work with the garage size you’re considering with our Will it Fit tool. You simply drag and drop items into a floor plan - it’s fun and simple to use!  Click here to try it.

Location

Before you finalize a garage size, you’ll want to make sure it’s compatible with the location. From the get-go you’ve probably had a pretty good idea where you want to place your garage, but we recommend staking your site before you set the location in stone. This will make it easier to see any pitfalls with your location. If the garage is going to block your garden from the sun, cause a drainage issue, or if the site is extremely uneven and will require more work to level for a foundation, those issues will be more noticeable once you stake it out. Click here for a tutorial on staking out your building. You’ll also need to check your local building codes, and have any underground utilities marked.

Budget

Budgets are necessities, right? So while you’re planning your design be sure to keep it in mind. Planning to hire a certified contractor to assemble the garage? You’ll need to factor that in. There’s the permit to plan for, and preparing your foundation. Depending on how you intend to use it, you may need to plan for insulation or getting electric to your garage as well.

Customization

Once you’ve finalized budget, location, and chosen the size of your VersaTube garage, you get to design the perfect one for you! You really have 3 options: design your own garage, choose from one of our 45 standard models, or choose one of those standard models but modify it so it perfectly fits your needs. When it comes to customizing, the options are pretty much endless. Do you need windows, skylights, or an extra door on the side? How about a horizontal extension for storage or a vertical extension for a loft? We also offer 8 colors which can be mixed and matched into your favorite combination.

Think you’ve got a good idea what you want for your garage design? Browse through our standard models or choose to Design Your Own with real-time pricing.
