Can I leave a bare dirt floor in my VersaTube RV cover?
So you’re ready to pick your VersaTube RV cover and you’re wondering what floor choices you have besides concrete. That’s OK - many customers ask this same question! While we do recommend using concrete, and highly recommend it to anchor your structure, you do have some other options and they can all work with an RV cover pretty easily.
If you’re thinking about choosing a dirt or earthen floor, you certainly can! There are, however, a few requirements to keep in mind.
A prepared dirt floor will be just fine for your RV cover as long as there are concrete footings and piers to support the structure. Keep in mind a dirt floor also means you’ll be dealing with a dusty area in dry weather and a muddy floor when it rains. A freshly-washed RV will still mean a muddy floor if the water drips down to the dirt. If you go with a dirt floor for now and want to switch to a concrete foundation later, it’ll be simple to take down your VersaTube and reassemble it.
If you’re thinking you still want a budget-friendly option but something other than dirt, here are a few other types of flooring to consider:
Gravel is another good option. When it comes to dealing with the weather, a gravel floor will be a step up, saving you from dealing with dust and mud. Concrete footings and piers will probably still be necessary.
Asphalt will be more economical than concrete, but is a very durable and attractive choice. Though less likely, you may still need concrete to provide support. You’ll also need to seal the asphalt on a regular basis.
