Can I Leave a Bare Dirt Floor for My VersaTube Carport?

by Abby Mwesigwa on October 11, 2018

Dirt floors have been a go-to since the beginning of time, but is it the right choice for your new VersaTube Carport? It’s definitely the economic choice for many people to start, with the plan for a more permanent replacement down the road. If you’re thinking about keeping a dirt floor in your VersaTube carport, here are some things to consider:

Mud

The purpose of most carports is to protect your car from the elements. If you get caught in a storm while you are driving around or even come home with a newly washed car, that water is going to drip down onto your dirt floor and turn it into mud. If you have an open-sided carport, a strong storm with heavy wind may force some water onto your carport floor as well.

Cheap as dirt

Well, it’s pretty much true. If you’re simply looking for the most affordable flooring option for your new VersaTube carport, dirt is it.

Dusty

If the climate in which you live in is fairly dry year-round, you may want to consider the amount of dust that will occur every time your car moves. This may not be a huge concern to you but if you are the type of person that likes to keep a car looking shiny, you may want to think twice about dirt flooring. Will dirt still be the cheapest option after taking your car to the car wash several times a week?

While you’re considering your flooring options, keep in mind we recommend that all VersaTube buildings have concrete footings and piers. This is to ensure your building has the proper structural support. So even if you choose a dirt floor, be sure to include enough concrete for footings and piers in your budget.

Now that you are equipped with the all pros and cons for dirt flooring, what will you choose? Check out different types of foundations that can be used with our VersaTube buildings on our website.
