Your RV is an investment. Here’s how to help retain its value.
Some people choose to live out their lives in their RVs, freely moving throughout the country whenever they want. Others choose to vacation in their RVs a few times per year. Whatever your reason for buying an RV, it’s a major investment. And it’s up to you to protect and maintain your RV to help that investment retain its value.
Storage
An effective way to retain your RV’s value is by properly storing it. Storage can take many forms, but we recommend one of the following:
-
RV covers provide protection geared specifically toward RVs. Wind, rain, sun or snow, they’ll keep the worst away while giving you cover as you set up or break down. They’ll also protect your RV from excessive exposure to harmful UV rays.
-
Carports that are custom-made and extra large can provide your RV with cover from the elements, too. They can be just as effective as RV covers if they’re well-designed.
We offer VersaTube RV Cover Building Kits and VersaTube Carport Building Kits. Our kits can be customized to fit your RV make and model for a snug or spacious fit.
Maintenance
You need to maintain your RV if you want to retain its value. From the moment of purchase, your RV will depreciate in value, so keeping it in tip-top shape is your best bet if you’d like to sell it later on. Good maintenance will also help you avoid issues and make your time in your RV more pleasant.
Keep up with the following to get the most out of your RV:
-
Tighten wheel lug nuts.
-
Inspect tire pressure.
-
Check batteries.
-
Pay attention to roof seals and seams.
-
Maintain brakes.
-
Ensure electrical connection to your tow vehicle works.
-
Change oil.
-
Clean and fix seals and slide outs.
-
Stay on top of waste water system.
-
Examine and replace the coolant, fuel, hydraulic filters and tire air.
If you don’t know how to do one or more of these things, call your local RV repair shop for help.
Treatment
Although it’s easy to forget that such a large vehicle can also be delicate, try to treat it with the same care that you would give any important investment. RVs certainly aren’t cheap, and the last thing you want is to spend money on endless repairs. Also consider that if you don’t properly care for your RV, it will be difficult to sell it later on should you decide to upgrade.
