5 Ways to Help Your ATV Retain Its Value

by VersaTube Marketing on May 29, 2019

Congratulations! You just bought an ATV or RTV. Slow down a second, though. You shouldn’t start hitting jumps and throwing mud just yet. Even Evel Knievel didn’t just hop on a new bike and try to jump the Caesar’s Palace fountain. First, he got to know the feel of every single nut and bolt on his machine, tuning it to perfection as he went bigger and bolder. You might not be trying to clear 20 school buses, but the same idea applies to your ATV. The engine and fluids need to be primed with use, tire pressure needs to be checked and checked again, your handlebars need adjusting to fit comfortably with your riding style. There are myriad details that may have gone unnoticed on the showroom floor, but you’re sure going to be happy you took the time to set up your ATV before you shred.

Keep Up with Regular Maintenance

Make friends with your maintenance guide, it’ll save you unnecessary and potentially costly trips back to the dealer. Pop off the caps and check your oil and fluids. Your ATV can handle some pretty rough terrain, but you’ll need to clean and change that air filter with regularity if you want your engine to keep humming.

Transmission Belt

The transmission belt on your ATV will last many years if you don’t neglect it. The range of terrain you cover can be hard on it, especially if you’re driving on steep slopes or across streams and other obstacles. Make sure to heed any noises coming from your machine and get it checked before a small problem turns into a much bigger one.

Gas Tank

This one is particularly important if you plan on storing your ATV for a while, whether it’s for a few weeks until your next trip out of town or for the winter. You don’t want to leave gas sitting in your tank for a long period of time, after all, it’s an unstable compound that will begin to break down and cause corrosion and other problems. It’s no fun to try to fire up your ATV, only to find out it won’t start. Luckily the solution is simple: you don’t need to pump out the tank every time you store your ATV, just remember to use a little gas stabilizer.

Storing Your ATV Properly

An ATV is a great investment, and you’ll want to protect it by storing it out of the elements. Your machine has electrical components that can be damaged or fried by leaving it out in the rain. UV rays from the sun can crack and damage the paint and exterior shell. Critters looking for a warm home will find their way into the ATV’s small crannies. All that mud caked on proves you had an awesome time, but it won’t help your ATV last longer. You’ll want to keep that puppy clean and stored away from all these hazards. VersaTube has a variety of options that will be perfect for storing your machine. The ATV Cover will house and protect your ATV while saving space. Have multiple ATV’s to stash away, or just want more storage room? Consider a Stor-Port or Carport.
