Metal Garages
Garage Organization - The Cherry On Top of Your VersaTube Garage Build
It was a whirlwind weekend, but you and your buddies got your new VersaTube garage assembled without a hitch.
Now the fun part begins…
No, it isn’t quite time for beer and pizza yet! You’ve got to plan how you’ll lay out your new shop!
Okay, you can have a beer for this part...
Your new garage needs to look as good on the inside as it does on the outside (yes, we’re tooting our own horn here).
Your wife calls this part the “decorating” phase, but you like to say “festooning” or “bedecking.” Whatever you call it, we can all agree that it’s fun. Let’s dive into it.
Start with the floor. Will it remain bare concrete? Will you epoxy the floor for durability and to make clean up a lot easier? Will you lay down some interlocking, checkered tiles for that victory lane look? You’d better make a decision before you start moving your stuff in!
Once you’ve got the floor finished, divide your garage into different sections.
Tool Storage Section
Are you a monochromatic kind of person? Do you have the extra dough to really deck this garage out? Set up your tool storage area with one of those nice roll cabs in your favorite color. Matching overhead cabinets would compliment that tool box nicely.
This area ought to remain clean and organized. That said, it’s a good place to add an additional work surface if need be for assembling parts and etc.
Metal Working Area
Working with metal can create quite a mess. Choose a section of your garage furthest away from your tool storage and assembly surface area. Consider setting up your bench grinder, little wire feed welder, welding table, etc. in a corner near the garage door. That’s an easier place to clean and sweep without getting the rest of your shop messy.
Solvents, oil, paint, etc.
Set up a nice locker or two (that match your tool cabinets of course). Keep your solvents, oils, paints, polishing compounds, etc. organized in their respective sections within these lockers. This area of the garage would be a good place to install a utility sink and a parts washer as well.
Car, Motorcycle, Boat, etc. work area
How big is your garage? How much available space do you have? Do you have enough space for a 4 post lift? A couple of motorcycle lifts? Room to back in a boat trailer? We hope so!
Keep your new garage clean and organized. Be unrelenting when your family members try and use your new garage as an overflow area for their stuff!
Be proud of your new work space. Be proud to show it off. When you’re ready, share your finished garage in our VersaTubers Facebook Group! In the meantime, enjoy festooning.
