Landscaping around your VersaTube RV cover

by VersaTube Marketing on September 25, 2019

The area surrounding your VersaTube RV cover doesn’t have to be plain and boring. There are many ways to utilize your RV when you’re not camping or traveling. Offer it as a guest room for visiting family, or let your kids and their friends use it as a slumber party campout. Landscaping around your RV cover can easily take it from an average parking lot for your camping trailer to an amazing entertainment space.

Here are some tips for landscaping the area surrounding your RV cover.

Add a Grass Lawn

This is an easy beginning landscaping project that should only take a day. All the materials you’ll need should be available in your local hardware and garden center. Also, be sure to research what kind of grass grows best in your zone.

Clear away any debris and stones from the dirt area you’d like to add the lawn to beside the RV cover. Using a spade and garden rake, scratch 1 to 2 inches of the soil surface, then dig at least 6 more inches to get rid of more rocks and roots, if necessary. Then mix in seeding soil, grass fertilizer, and/or compost to the churned-up area and smooth over. Plant grass seeds using a seed spreader, gently tamp the seeded soil down with a tamping tool, and then water and wait.

Or, if you are using sod rolls, simply roll them out where you want the lawn to be. While sod rolls are more expensive, they provide instant results as opposed to waiting for the new lawn to grow. If you’re only planting a small lawn in front of your RV cover, rolling out sod rolls may not be too expensive of a project.

Add Potted Plants and Flowers

This is another easy, cost-effective way to landscape around your RV cover. Decorative pots, lush green plants and bushes, and a variety of colorful flowers can quickly dress up the area around your RV cover. Find pots and plants that suit your tastes, buy plenty of potting soil, and take an afternoon to plant your new greenery and blooms in their pots, and set them around the RV cover. It’s a simple but effective change of scenery.

Plus, pots are movable, so you can place them by the entry door and windows, and use them as centerpieces to picnic tables set up beside the RV. You can also take some of the small potted plants and flowers with you for when you travel in your RV to landscape the area you camp at. Or, if you are leaving the potted plants behind at home, they can easily be moved away from the RV cover temporarily to park or leave with your camper.

Add a Fire Pit

One last suggestion is to add a fire pit to the landscape surrounding your RV cover. If you have guests staying over in your RV, a fire pit can transform any space into a cozy, welcoming gathering area for roasting hot dogs and s’mores.

You can either buy a metal or propane fire pit or build a custom one, depending on your budget and DIY experience. Simply buying one and setting it up is a faster way to do it. Building a custom fire pit isn’t too difficult of a project, but can be more time-consuming.

If you do want to build it yourself, here is one way to do it:

Dig a level, circular area several inches into the dirt. Using firebricks, set up your fire ring circle. Meld the bricks together using a fireproof material like concrete, cobb, or clay; allow to drive before continuing. Add a layer of lava rocks in the center of the pit and spread evenly.

Whether you buy a pre-made fire pit or make your own, be sure to fireproof the area by clearing away flammable, dry grass and spreading out rock pavers or gravel. Then decorate simply with outdoor lounge chairs - maybe even a potted plant or two. If children are camping in the RV under the cover overnight, be sure to monitor them around the fire pit when in use.

RV covers can do more than protect your RV when not in use. They provide excellent shade and can be transformed into a beautiful camping spot in your own backyard.
