A Sneak Peek into Jay Leno's Impressive Auto Collection

by VersaTube Marketing on August 22, 2019

Fans can’t get enough of Late Night legend Jay Leno’s garage full of toys. Originally slotted as a web show for NBC.com, the popular program had super fans clamoring for more. Spun into a prime-time series, the show features Jay Leno’s vast collection of vintage vehicles, sports cars, and even motorcycles. The spectacular and exceedingly-expensive collection is so stunning, there are already over 50 episodes featuring this glorious group of motor vehicles. Here’s a little sneak peek into a few of our favorites from Jay Leno’s impressive auto collection.

1906 Stanley Steamer Vanderbilt Cup Racer

After Jay and his team burned up the first 23” boiler in this groovy steam-powered vehicle, they installed a new, larger, 30” version to boost the power capacity. Like many vehicles of that time period, this fully restored car was originally produced with wood. How would you like to take a spin behind the wheel of this amazing piece of machinery?

1909 Baker Electric

Jay’s gorgeous 1909 Baker Electric was initially marketed to women—years before women’s suffrage began. Its compact, easy-to-use form had no hard-to-turn crank and no hitching of horses to a wagon. It was the perfect little vehicle for women of luxury and is hands-down the favorite vehicle of Jay’s wife Mavis. With 110 miles per charge, the Baker Electric was way before its time.

1913 Mercer Raceabout

The magnificent Mercer Raceabout is considered by some to be the first race car in America. While being high in technology it is definitely not low on looks. The rare find is an icon in Leno’s garage. With speeds up to 100 miles per hour, the car can keep up with today’s traffic speeds. However, with rear-only brakes, be careful how quickly you slam on the brake pedal.

1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing Coupe

Always a lover of cars, Jay Leno worked for Mercedes-Benz while he was in college. His choice of the most famous Mercedes-Benz model of all time should be no surprise. In a Feb 19, 2010, article in Popular Mechanics, Jay states that the owner of the Gullwing previously put this vehicle in a storage container out in the desert and it had sat untouched for decades. When asked if he wanted to purchase the vehicle, Leno couldn’t turn down the opportunity. With many of the parts available directly from Mercedes, he plans to restore the supercar completely over time. He’s only the third owner of this priceless treasure.

1955 Buick Roadster

This exquisite car is a site to behold. Purchased by Leno for a few hundred dollars in the 70’s, the car speaks of Leno’s early days. Used as his daily driver, the Buick Roadster also doubled as home, at times. Leno slept in the car in comedy club alleys some nights before his comedy career was off the ground. It’s also the car Leno used to take his wife Mavis on their early dates together. Unable to part with this significant source of personal history, Leno parked the car in his mother-in-law’s driveway for 16 years. You’ll now find it looking largely stock at his 14,000-foot Big Dog Garage in Burbank, California.

2006 EcoJet

We all needed Jay Leno to one day design a car of his own. It finally happened! The 2006 EcoJet is the brain baby collaboration of Jay Leno and his chief mechanic Bernard Juchli. When General Motors was brought into the conversation, Leno’s dreams and ideas became reality. Although not in production for the public, this sleek little concept car is breathtaking and deserves a spot on the charts.

Fans can tune in for more of Jay Leno’s impressive collection on August 28, 2019, when season five debuts.
