New boat? Protect your investment with these 4 amazing tips.

by VersaTube on March 13, 2019

If you’ve got a new boat, nightmares of peeling gel coat and scratches might be keeping you up at night. But with a few tips you can keep your boat in tip-top shape!

Waxing

Salt water, dirt, mineral buildup, the sun - your boat’s finish requires a lot of care. Put waxing at the top of that list. Always start with a freshly cleaned boat, otherwise you’ll wax-in the grime and dullness. For serious protection, a paste wax generally protects better than liquid. Every time you use degreasing cleaners, cleaners that remove oxidation, or a hull cleaner, follow it up with a wax.

Rinse

Afternoon in the saltwater? Fun and games for you and your family, but a nightmare for your boat’s paint. As the saltwater dries, the crystals left behind will damage the finish, plus they’ll magnify the sun’s UV rays and break down the wax protective coating much faster. To avoid this, just give your boat a thorough rinse every time it’s been in saltwater.

Paint the hull

An unpainted hull, especially on a docked boat, will cause you a lot of headaches in the long run. Bottom growth on an unpainted hull will be excessive and within weeks you could start to notice a drag in performance and fuel efficiency. Cleaning it will be a serious pain. Plus, it might even void your warranty.

Protected parking and storage

You probably saw this one coming, but nothing destroys your paint job like UV rays, so you need a protected place to park and store your boat. As it happens, we’ve got the perfect structure for the job! A VersaTube carport offers plenty of protection from the sun and other environmental hazards, for not just your boat’s paint, but the interior and rubrails, too. You can choose from several designs, including top only, 2-sided, or 3-sided. As a bonus, if you go for a top only or 2-sided design, parking will be effortless, as you can pull right through. Got an extra-long boat? Go for a custom design!

The bottom line? With a little effort and a small investment, you can keep your boat safe, protected and in like-new condition, bringing your family year’s of on-the-water fun!
