3 Things to Consider When Sizing Your VersaTube RV Cover

by VersaTube on January 07, 2019

Ever wondered why RV owners love their RV cover carports so much? The answer is simple: they protect their RVs from many of the effects of harsh weather. They’re also helpful for loading and unloading in the snow, rain and hot weather. In short, they’re awesome!

If you’re looking at your RV cover options, size is one of the most important things you need to consider. Before you can decide on the size of your VersaTube RV cover/carport, you need to know three measurements: width, length and height.

Width

Our narrowest RV covers and carports are 8’ wide (perfect for small trailers or cars), however, 12’ wide is the common go-to for RVs. If you want to be on the safe side, then we recommend choosing about six sizes up (or an 18’ wide cover). This width will give you more than enough leeway to open doors and navigate around your RV and still be under shelter. From 18’, we offer all the way up to 60’ wide covers.

Length

After determining how wide your cover should be, you need to measure the length of your RV. This is important because it ensures that the cover protects your entire motorhome while giving you additional covered room on the front and back sections. Think extra room isn’t necessary? Think again. When dealing with the elements, you’ll be thankful for the additional space under your RV cover when getting in and out or loading and unloading your vehicle.

Height

Sure, the width and length are important factors to consider, but let’s not forget the importance of your cover’s height. First, measure the height of your RV’s roof. And second, measure the highest point of your RV (i.e. anything that is on the roof such as storage or an AC unit). You should always take more than the actual roof height into account. In doing so, you will order an RV cover that truly makes your life easier.

Bonus Tip

One final thing to consider is whether or not you plan to keep your current RV for the duration of its life. If you plan to buy a bigger RV in the future, you might want to buy a larger carport cover. If you prepare ahead of time, you won’t be forced to buy a new RV cover down the road, or to purchase an RV that doesn’t fit with what you really want.

We offer a variety of RV covers and carport building kits, with a number of options and customizations. We carry different kits, including roof-only covers, frame-only covers, 3-sided covers and 2-sided covers. You can choose your roof sheet metal position, dimensions and color with just a few mouse clicks!

Remember, always measure before you order your RV carport cover. Understanding the correct dimensions will save you from wasting money and time on inconvenient sizing mistakes.
