What is a Mandrel Bend?

08/27/2016 · HT019

VersaTube uses a mandrel bending system for a cleaner look and a stronger bend transition. Framing systems for most primary structures and complete packaged kits include frame components that feature mandrel bends.

A mandrel is a steel rod or linked ball inserted into the tube while it is being bent.  This gives the tube extra support while being shaped, and reduces wrinkling and breaking the tube during this process.  VersaTube chooses to use the mandrel bend to maintain the structural integrity of the steel tubing.

We also choose to use a mandrel bend which does not crush the steel as dramatically as the compression bends our competition typically uses.
