Anchoring on concrete piers
VersaTube structures are designed to anchor into prepared ground, gravel, asphalt, or concrete. Whichever foundation treatment you choose, anchoring can be achieved with relative ease.
VersaTube typically provides 1/2" x 7" expansion bolts with a flat washer and a hex nut or 30" ground anchors depending on the foundation type for your structure, however a wide variety of anchor options are on the market today.
- • All VersaTube structures require a minimum of 2500 psi concrete for foundations. Please remember to check with your local building department for any specific requirements in your local area.
- • Each pier is specifically placed to support a down post. Always refer to your foundation drawing for the correct pier layout.
- • Lay out the base rails on the prepared site. Mark the location of the base rail and the anchor holes within the base rail as well.
- • Next, move the base rails aside and dig holes at each anchor point for concrete. NOTE: you may want to rent a gas-powered post hole digger with an 8" or 12” diameter auger for this job.
- • Dig the pier holes to the depth and diameter specified in the instructions for your structure.
- • Move the base rails back into position over the holes. NOTE: carefully check your drawings to ensure the rails are in the proper location.
- • Drop or drive a VersaTube 30" rebar ground anchor or a 1/2" x 36" threaded rod with a flat washer and nut at the top into each anchor hole. NOTE: a 24" threaded rod could also be used (36” and 24” threaded rods not provided).
- • Mix up concrete and pour into holes up to ground level. You may want to rent a mixer for this job.
- • Before the concrete sets, re-check all your dimensions to make sure the frame is square and has the proper width. NOTE: Let the concrete cure overnight before installing Roof/Wall assemblies
