Concrete Foundation Options
VersaTube structures can be anchored to a foundation of prepared ground, gravel, asphalt, or concrete. While we do recommend VersaTube structures be anchored in concrete, whichever foundation treatment you choose can be achieved with relative ease.
A simple mathematical formula is used to calculate the size of your foundation. This is a general calculation only. Always speak with your professional Sales Engineer or refer to your foundation drawing for information specific to your customized structure.
To calculate the dimensions of a Frontier foundation:
WIDTH = building dimension. LENGTH = building dimension + 2”. Then, add 3” to BOTH the Width and Length measurements (this is to accommodate the sheeting ledge around the perimeter of the structure) to get the total foundation size.
To calculate the dimensions of a Summit foundation:
WIDTH = building dimension + 6” (3” is for hat channel and the remaining 3” is for the sheeting ledge). LENGTH = building dimension + 5” (3” is for sheeting ledge and the remaining 2” is for the frame length).
All VersaTube structures require a minimum of 2500 psi concrete for foundations. Please always check with your local building department for specific requirements in your local area.
Full Concrete Slab: VersaTube structures require a 12” wide footer and a 4” depth for the balance of the full concrete slab.
Concrete Strip Footing: VersaTube structures require a minimum of 12” wide x 12” deep concrete trench around the perimeter of the structure. Always consult with your local building department for local depth requirements. This option is perfect for structures with gravel or earth floors.
Concrete Piers: Always refer to your foundation drawing for the placement and depth of each concrete pier. We recommend using solenoid forms to create the pier. Piers are a good choice if your building site is not able to be leveled.
