What Materials are used in VersaTube Framing Systems?
The majority of VersaTube frame components are made of 2″ x 3″ or 2″ x 4″ in-line galvanized steel tubing. All mandrel-bent components are made with 14-gauge tubing. The straight components use a high-strength 15-gauge tubing. Finally, components that utilize 2″ x 2″ square material are made with 15-gauge tubing.
Most steel frames require components to be bent-to-fit, thereby compromising strength. Through the VersaTube “swaging” and smooth mandrel bending processes, we effectively shape and bend heavy-gauge, rectangular steel tubing without sacrificing an ounce of strength or performance.
Our premium in-line galvanized steel tubing achieves a salt spray test of 840 hours. By comparison, normal G-90 galvanized steel has a salt spray performance of approximately 400 hours. This in-line process referred to as 'Flo-Coat' finish consists of 3 layers of clear-coat applied to the steel tubing after it’s been milled. Triple layer clear-coat provides twice the salt spray life and twice the rust protection versus standard galvanized tubing.
