Building a Greenhouse

Creating a greenhouse can be a fun and rewarding experience, especially when you start with a VersaTube framing kit. There are just a few things you will need to decide before you begin:

Size

How much growing space will you require? Remember that an interior garden is literally going to grow over the years. Be sure to provide room to grow over time.

How tall should the structure be? It’s always a good idea to leave headroom for hanging plants or any overhead irrigation needs.

Structure

Now that you have a size in mind, select your frame. We recommend using a VersaTube Building Systems Summit Style structure. The Summit Frame structure includes hat channel components which are designed to make attaching the exterior treatment a breeze.

Exterior

When you purchase the exterior treatment, you will need to consider several factors. If you are in a cool climate you will need to select a twin-walled covering which offers a high R-factor (insulation). In a warmer climate, you will need to select a covering that has a high U-Factor (UV light) and diffuses light to prevent your plants from burning.

Currently, VersaTube Building Systems does not offer greenhouse exterior options. However, our customers have been very successful with both a polycarbonate panel application and a Solexx vinyl application. Just check with your local hardware store - we are sure they will be more than happy to help you out!
